This darling, little spot motif sampler is worked in silk threads. Probably Dutch. Two rows of alphabets are worked at the top. Motifs include florals, stars, a bird, a wee, tiny woman and another larger, unfinished woman with hands on hips. The year 1803 and initials SK are worked in a small cartouche in the lower left. Hemmed on the sides. The top is selvage and the bottom is raw. The silk colors have faded but a look at the back shows they once featured lovely yellows, pinks, blues, gold, and black. There is a bit of stitch loss, particularly in the topmost horizontal band (above the alphabets). Linen has overall age-related darkening and the black silks have bled a bit. This small treasure measures approximately 9.5”h x 6.75”w.
