~~ An Antique Reproduction ~~
C Ancrum 1844 was one of three samplers worked by the same girl when I purchased it over a decade ago. The others were stitched in 1843 and 1845 and contained Miss Ancrum’s first name as well as her age. Thus we know that the “C” stands for Cordelia and she was 7 years old when she worked this redwork sampler. Despite slight discrepancies between the crown on the left and the crown on the right, her stitching was very well executed. Cordelia’s abundant use of curlicues, wavy lines, and dots give her sampler a wonderfully pretty and playful quality. Stitched on 36 count Lakeside Linen’s Vintage Light Examplar using DMC floss.
Stitch count: 182w x 123h
